RENO, Nev. (MyNews4.com & KRNV) -- The University of Nevada, Reno’s national-champion concrete-canoe competition team, Alluvium, will be honored by the Reno City Council during their Aug. 20 meeting.

After sweeping the competition in the mid-pacific conference this spring UNR's concrete canoe team headed to the National Concrete Canoe competition at Penn state this summer.

The 16 civil engineering students returned to Reno as the national champions beat out 22 other top universities from around the country.

The team will be recognized during today's city council meeting at Reno City Hall -- Reno Mayor Bob Cashell and the Reno City Council will present a proclamation recognizing the team and the winning canoe will be on display.

The presentation is slated between noon and 12:30 p.m. Wednesday.
