RENO, Nev. (KRNV & MyNews4.com) - Leaders of the May Day March and Protest in Reno failed to get a permit for their event according to a Reno spokesperson.  The group marched from the Reno City Plaza to Wingfield Park calling for immigrants rights and comprehensive immigration reform.

At times the group crossed city streets forcing officers to close down the streets.  The City of Reno had to call-in 6 officers to help with crowd control and traffic. More officers would have been necessary to call-in if were not for the fact the march happened near a shift change and extra officers were readily available.

City officials tell News 4 they support the first amendment rights to protest, but events this size need to get permits because of the extra cost on city resources.

News 4 e-mailed four of the organizers of the event to see why they did not get a permit. We have not yet received a response.

A news release sent to News 4 said the march organizers included: "Mi Familia Vota- Immigration Reform for Nevada - Occupy Reno - PLAN - AHORA Latino Journal - AFGE - IWW- RISE -SMACC - others groups participating: AFL-CIO, SEIU Nevada and many others."

isnt he the United States Constitution for the citizens of the United States? If you are here illegal then you are not a citizen.

Immigration rights? Gimmie a break. There are no rights unless you come here legally and make sure you stay legal. Using May Day as 1st Amendment rights when you're not legal is NOT YOUR RIGHT. Take it to Immigration.

The First Amendment (Amendment I) to the United States Constitution prohibits the making of any law respecting an establishment of religion, impeding the free exercise of religion, abridging the freedom of speech, infringing on the freedom of the press, interfering with the right to peaceably assemble or prohibiting the petitioning for a governmental redress of grievances. It was adopted on December 15, 1791, as one of the ten amendments that comprise the Bill of Rights. -Is that permit enough for ya?

How did May Day turn into an Immigration rally? Did you know that our country is in distress and has been since 2008? Yet USA still 'legally' allows more immigrants into this country than EVERY SINGLE OYHER COUNTRY COMBINED! I am a humanitarian and i see this as a huge human rights issuee. Not only are we putting more stress on a country thats in serious stress, stretched for resources and recovering from some very bad decisions but we are making false promises to those who come from other countries with business ventures that will fail. They will end up on welfare and miserable too. When I got laid off from my 50k a year job and forced to go on unemployment in 2007 I was the only sales person who didn't speak fluent Spanish. And yes, I was the only one who got laid off. We need to take care of all the people who are already here. This country is sick and doesn't need to grow until its better. As for the permit issue, whatever. Who cares? Nevada is so obsessed with permits and licenses. Get over it.

Investigative reporting fail. Everyone involved (including RPD and City officials) was aware that they were not getting a permit in advance. Freedom of Assembly...what's that? "Reno May Day March leaders succeeded without a permit" - there, fixed it for ya.
