RENO, Nev. (KRNV & --The Reno River Festival returns to celebrate its 10th anniversary at the Truckee River Whitewater Park May 11-12, 2013.

Based on athlete and spectator feedback from the 2012 event, event organizers determined a move back to its original Mother’s Day weekend is in order to help accommodate paddlers’ competitive schedule and take advantage of spring runoff.

“We want to bring the best of the best to Reno for this event and a May date is the most effective way to do that,” said Jim Bauserman, owner of the annual event. “We had a great turnout last year but it was tough for some teams, and we want to help relieve that stress with the move back to May. We’ve had positive feedback from both sponsors and athletes so far and we’re looking forward to great weather and great water to celebrate 10 years in downtown Reno.”

In addition to the shift in schedule for the 2013 event, this year’s Festival encompasses two days rather than three, making for a truly action-packed weekend of whitewater competitions, music, food and industry vendors. The move to Saturday-Sunday also reduces closures on a main thoroughfare in downtown Reno, Arlington Avenue. All of the event’s whitewater competitions also return, pitting some of the world’s top kayakers against each other for top honors, and top prize money, in freestyle, slalom, boatercross and SUP events.

“Our goal is to really focus on quality versus quantity in 2013 and bring the event back to its core, which is whitewater,” added Bauserman. “We have this amazing natural resource in the heart of our city and that is what the River Festival is about–Celebrating this unique attribute that makes our city different from all the rest.”

In addition to a schedule filled with some of the world’s top whitewater competitions, the 2013 Reno River Festival again features two full days of free live entertainment, yoga in the park, enticing food and drink, and the industry’s top vendors in an outdoor expo. A children’s play area also keeps kids entertained while parents enjoy a day of fun and sun.
