RENO, Nev. ( & KRNV) -- The Reno Rodeo will celebrate it's 95th year in June. For the last 56, Hall of Fame Stock Contractor Cotton Rosser has been a staple of the event.
On Wednesday, the legend was honored at an inaugural event that organizers want to make a tradition.

"He's the king of the cowboys," said former Reno Rodeo Association President Grant Dalen.

Hall of Famer Cotton Rosser has been a part of the Reno Rodeo since 1948. "This rodeo is an old fashioned rodeo."

Rosser competed in the rodeo until 1956, when a ranch accident ended his career as a rodeo contestant. Then, he bought the Flying U Rodeo Company. "He's very innovative in the rodeo's that he does and he's an all around great cowboy," said Dalen.

Dalen said there is no better person to honor for the first-ever Legacy Dinner. "He's the Buffalo Bill of his time."

But, Rosser remains humble. "My golly, if it wasn't for the volunteers, they wouldn't have this wonderful rodeo."

This year's Legacy Dinner will help fund the creation of a bronze statue of Rosser that will be the centerpiece of a future Reno Rodeo Museum.

"By golly a bronze statue ... it's about the greatest honor I've ever had," Rosser said.

Organizers of the Legacy Dinner said they are proud of their mission and those who are supporting it. "We're losing our history and we're trying to raise money for the Legacy museum. It's beyond all my expectations to have all of these people here," said Dalen.
