RENO, Nev. (KRNV & MyNews4.com) -- A Reno man is facing five misdemeanor charges after breaching airport security at the Reno/Tahoe International Airport yesterday.
Police say before yesterday at 9am, a security breach had never happened at the airport. Mark Thomas Myers breached security by forcefully walking through security check point without being screened.
TSA agents were able to keep him in sight before airport police got there and arrested him.
Vice President of Marketing Brian Kulpin says no one was injured and a key element in the incident was that TSA agents didn't let Myers out of their sight and so airport operations were not disrupted.
"All of the airport procedures that we have in place worked yesterday," Kulpin says.
Kulpin explained airport security, airport police and TSA go through trainings regularly to handle situations like this.
Kulpin described Myers demeanor Thursday as distraught and not in the best state of mind. Kulpin says Myer's motive is unknown.
Police are charging Myers with five charges, including disturbing the peace in a public building, trespassing, and resisting a police officer, battery, and false statement/obstructing a police official.
