RENO, Nev. ( & KRNV) – A sex offender known in Reno as a preacher was arrested Thursday afternoon by the Northern Nevada U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force.

James Edward Bryant, 68, was arrested on an outstanding California Parolee at Large warrant from October 2012. According to officials, Bryant's underlying offense is a conviction for sex offenses against a minor under the age of 14. He has a significant criminal history, and was considered dangerous.

Bryant was arrested at 541 West Third Street by Deputy United States Marshals and the Regional Sex Offender Notification Unit (RSONU). Bryant has been booked into the Washoe County Jail for failing to register as a sex offender in Nevada, and possession of a dangerous weapon. Following the disposition of local charges, he will face extradition to California for the outstanding arrest warrant.

The United States Marshals Service is conducting a follow-up investigation in order to assess if Bryant violated federal law as the result of the Adam Walsh Protection and Safety Act of 2006.
