RENO, Nev. (KRNV & MyNews4.com) -- Renown Health today announced the appointment of Mayo Clinic nurse executive Joanne Olsen, PhD, RN, CPHQ, CPSO to its board.

According to a 2012 published report by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, six percent of hospital board members are nurses. Studies have found that nurse leaders in the boardroom have more influence in reducing medical errors, increasing quality of care, promoting wellness, expanding preventative care, improving health care efficiency and reducing costs.

Olsen’s experience transcends nearly 40 years of practical, professional and academic leadership positions at well-respected institutions such as Stanford Hospital and Clinics, Arizona State University and the Mayo Clinic. Currently, she is the nursing administrator of research at the Mayo Clinic in Phoenix, Ariz.

Dr. Olsen, who holds a PhD in nursing research, is also a Certified Professional in Healthcare Quality and a Certified Patient Safety Officer.
