RENO, Nev. (KRNV & -- Last year nearly 30,000 people visited Rink on the River. This year organizers at the city want to take things up a notch by adding food, beverage and merchandise vendors.

"The big expansion is going to be the concessionaires," said city Recreation Supervisor Joe Wilson. "We do have a few tricks up our sleeve for the November 20 opening tree lighting ceremony."

Wilson says they're trying to create a holiday village atmosphere, but first the city needs vendors to sign up.

"We're looking for anything that's non-alcohol related," Wilson said. "So we're looking for your coffee vendors, we're looking for lemonade, we're looking for food of various types, we're looking for craft vendors."

They have spots for eight stationary vendors and one mobile vendor - like a food truck. Dish Cafe and Dish Truck owner Joe Horn loves the idea.

"This is a win-win for food vendors and the citizens of Reno," Horn said.

The city wants to expand the experience and Horn thinks it will work - for his family at least.

"I can do the food thing while they can be skating and if there's enough different things I can keep myself busy while they're doing that," Horn said. "Now all of the sudden it becomes a destination instead of kind of a one-hit deal."

Wilson hopes other potential vendors will be just as excited.

"We're just hoping for a lot of interest so we can put together a real varied mix of concessioneers and a good holiday village for the participants."

Proposals are due by 10 a.m. on October 18 and set-up starts November 6. If you'd like to be a vendor at Rink on the River visit the City of Reno's website or call Joe Wilson at (775) 657-4656.
