SACRAMENTO, Calif. (KRNV & MyNews4.com) -- Authorities and more than 100 volunteers are celebrating the safe return of a missing runner after two days of searching.
Volunteers had been searching for Bob Root since Sunday morning. The 55-year-old was running with a group of friends in a remote part of Placer County about 60 miles northeast of Sacramento.
Root was separated from the group and everyone feared the worst because he was wearing only shorts and a windbreaker.
Despite freezing temperatures overnight, Root was able to stay warm.
"He kind of just hunkered down under some bushes.... that's how he survived for a few nights. His vitals were fairly decent. Just an amazing survival story out here... just incredible," said Lt. Kevin Borden of Placer County Sheriff's Department.
Root was a member of the ShadowChase Running Club and his fellow runners were part of the search. Before he got into the ambulance to be checked out at the hospital, Root smiled and told everyone that he was thankful they never gave up hope.
