RENO, Nev. (MyNews4.com & KRNV) -- The Nevada commission on tourism has awarded a $985,000 grant for projects designed to increase travel in rural areas throughout the silver state.

Lieutenant Governor Brian Krolicki made the announcement at Wednesday's commission meeting and most of the money is slated for projects in the state's central and southern regions.

The Rural Grants Program helps grow communities and also generates room tax revenue for the state from tourists.
