CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) — Nevada Gov. Brian Sandoval has completed his appointments to the state board of Education.
Sandoval announced the appointments Monday of Stavan Corbett and Freeman Holbrook. Corbett lives in Las Vegas and is former president of the board. Holbrook teaches at Depaoli Middle School in Reno and is a coach at Damonte High.
Wynn Resorts board member Elaine Wynn was appointed to the board in December.
Education reform is a priority for Sandoval's administration. State lawmakers in 2011 approved his proposal giving the governor authority to appoint some members of the education board. Four voting members are still elected.
Sandoval also named four non-voting members on Monday. They are Elko County school board president Thad Ballard; Carson City Superintendent Richard Stokes; state Regent Kevin Melcher; and high school student Kamryn Mock.
