CARSON CITY, Nev. (KRNV & -- At the 2013 ECS National Forum on Education Policy in St. Louis, Missouri this week, the Education Commission of the States announced that Governor Brian Sandoval has assumed the Chairmanship of ECS.

Governor Sandoval assumed the leadership post from Colorado Governor John Hickenlooper. The position alternates between Democratic and Republican governors every two years.

“Education is vitally important to the strength of our state and indeed our country,” Governor Brian Sandoval said. “I am pleased that through this Chairmanship, Nevada will have an expanded voice in the national education discussion and continue to learn best practices from states across our country. I thank ECS for this opportunity and I look forward to the work we have ahead of us.”

ECS was created in 1965 when states and territories made a commitment to work together to tackle tough education problems. Through ECS, state policymakers and education leaders exchange information, ideas and experiences to improve public education. ECS supports their work by providing nonpartisan and unbiased research, analysis, and technical assistance on education issues from Pre-K to postsecondary.
