RENO, Nev. (MyNews4.com & KRNV) -- Of all the chatter surrounding the announcement of Tesla Motors' new gigafactory location, one of the loudest voices is that of Senator Harry Reid.

The Nevada senator spoke with reporters on Tesla this morning at a clean energy summit in Las Vegas; he told reporters this is great news for Nevada and cited multiple reasons why Nevada could be the clear choice.

Reid says one of the major reasons Tesla set its eye on Nevada was because of the local availability of lithium, a key component to Tesla's battery manufacturing. Rockwood Lithium operates a lithium mine in Silver Peak and is one of the only mines operating here in the U.S.

According to Reid, Tesla also successfully used a loan from the U.S. Department of Energy to build its $5 billion gigafactory in Nevada.

Should Tesla make the move to Nevada official in today's announcement, the factory -- that has already broken ground -- will be located in Storey County's Reno-Tahoe Industrial Park.

News 4 will report live from Tesla's press conference today at 4 p.m. Stay with us for the latest developments.

More information, like where is Silver Peak? (not the pub), how many/where are the other U.S. lithium mines? How much factory does $5 billion buy and what percentage is the loan for? & is grading a pad really worth 5 BILL? None of this is told 2 us by Nv3, instead foot-in-mouth Harry gets all the credit,
