RENO, Nev. (KRNV & MyNews4.com) -- This St. Patrick's Day some Northern Nevada firefighters aren't battling a blaze, instead they're adding fire to the fight against childhood cancer.
The Fraternal Order of Leatherheads Society - or FOOLS - are once again teaming up with the St. Baldrick's Foundation on St. Patrick's Day.
"The proceeds received from the donations to St. Baldrick's go to finding a cure for childhood cancer," said FOOLS Vice President Jason Eastman.
The FOOLS are hosting the 3rd Annual Shamrock Shave, where men women and children are going bald for the cause.
"I was a little nervous today, but I'm happy," said Carri Richards-Arcoraci.
Eastman said shaving heads is a sign of solidarity with kids who lose their hair during cancer treatment.
"We're not afraid of looking like they do, and we want to show them that we support them completely," Eastman said.
Donavan Rae and his 10-year-old son Ethan were the first to go, and like many at the event they have a personal connection to the cause.
"We've had relatives who've had cancer and so he was relating to that," Donovan said. "I felt really proud to be able to do something [like this] with him."
"I did it because it's fun and I wanted to help people," Ethan said.
While it is a great time, Eastman hopes they won't have to do the Shamrock Shave forever.
"Honestly it would be awesome if in the future we would'nt have to have events like this because there's no cancer to find a cure for," Eastman said.
