Reno, NV (KRNV & MyNews4.com) -- A local nonprofit is raising awareness about sex trafficking by encouraging young women to embrace their insecurities and share their selfies.

Anyone with a smart phone has probably taken a selfie, but what if your selfie could help raise awareness about an issue in our community?

“You can’t change how you feel about yourself until you accept who you are. I mean you just have to learn to love yourself, because it’s the body that carries you your whole life,” says 14 year old, Lizzy Calingaert.

Lizzy was part of a two week program created by the Reno based nonprofit, Awaken. The program brought together 27 young women from Damonte Ranch High School to work with mentors to learn more about why it’s important to embrace your insecurities.

Melissa Holland the founder and director of Awaken says, “The cool thing about prevention is you actually don’t have to talk about sex trafficking, you just have to talk about redefining beauty. By giving the girls and opportunity to feel more secure with themselves and find out what beauty really is their basically gaining confidence so we’re eliminating areas of exploitation for future perpetrators.”

Start working at home with Google. It’s a great work at home opportunity. Just work for few hours. I earn up to $500 a week. I can’t believe how easy it was once I tried it out. Pow6.com
