In stark contrast to the classic "ski jump" of yesteryear, these riders perform acrobatics mid-air and are judged by the difficulty level of the tricks. Canadian rider Mark McMorris can execute a triple cork, three rotations while flipping twice in the shape of a corkscrew, and is one of the favorites to win in this discipline. Shan White, the two-time Olympic gold medalist in snowboard halfpipe, does not compete in big air.
