CARSON CITY, Nev. (MyNews4.com & KRNV) -- Dozens of sick cats are being removed from an unoccupied home in the state capital.

Carson City Sheriff Deputies visited a home on Ladera Drive on Thursday, after neighbors reported the senior male resident missing for weeks. The deputies found no humans inside, but an abundance of ill and hungry cats, some already deceased.

Animal Services trapped about four cats every hour and took them into their care on Friday.

Neighbor Maria Guadalupe Martinez said, "Last week, when I try to go outside for work, I saw one kitty die in the street, and I told Jackie, 'Please call the police and report the kitty.'"

One neighbor said last year, she counted 27 cats in the front yard alone. In Carson City, there is no limit to the amount of felines once can own.
