LAS VEGAS (AP) — The U.S. Social Security Administration cutting public hours at offices in Nevada and other states as a cost-saving measure.

Beginning Monday, Social Security field offices nationwide will close to the public 30 minutes earlier each day.

In Nevada, that means that office hours will be 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Administrators say employees will continue to work regular hours, but the shorter public window will allow them to complete face-to-face interviews and process claims work without overtime.

Social Security offices will also be closed Nov. 23, the day after Thanksgiving, to let employees work on backlogged workloads.

Starting Jan. 2, the offices will close at noon every Wednesday.
