SPANISH SPRINGS, Nev. ( & KRNV) --Church members are in disbelief this morning to find their place of worship vandalized once again. It’s the second time in less than two month, they say.

Overnight, vandals spray painted more than 40 tags on the exterior of the Jesus Christ Church of Latter Day Saints on Mercedes Drive in Sparks.

The tags are concentrated on the back of the church, away from street view and bright lights.

"It’s heartbreaking,” says church member, Stacie Hartze. “To see the scale of what’s going on, I hope it doesn’t happen again."

She says with the specific markings, the individuals who keep tagging the church can be found.

The Washoe county sheriff's department says they rely on the public's to help them track tags for their database. There's a direct link to report it on the Washoe County Sheriff's app.

Jake skiver runs graffiti abatement with inmate crews for the sheriff's office. He says he's noticed an increase in graffiti in the area-- and expects to see more as the weather gets warmer.

Skiver suspects the serial church taggers are troubled youth, though there is no official word from the Sheriff’s office whether or not the vandalism is gang-related.

If caught, taggers can face vandalism charges, but with public help in collecting different monikers they've defaced property with, law enforcement can build a case for felony charges.
