SPARKS, Nev. ( & KRNV) – Longtime Sparks City Manager Shaun Carey has announced his retirement. He will step down, effective April 4.

Carey grew up in Sparks, attended Dilworth Middle School and graduated from Sparks High School in 1975. In 1981, Mr. Carey began his professional career as a Civil Engineer for Sierra Vista, Arizona. He later worked for Boulder County, Colorado as a Traffic Engineer, and then in Marysville, California as the City Engineer and Public Works Director before returning back to Sparks.

In 1992, Carey was named Public Works Director for the City of Sparks. In 1999, he was named Assistant City Manager and was promoted to City Manager in January 2000.

“For more than 30 years, Mr. Carey has had a long and distinguished public service career, 21 years of it in the city he grew up in and loves, that is Sparks,” said Mayor Geno Martini. “I can’t find a big enough word to tell you how I feel about Shaun and the professionalism, dedication, and commitment he has shown for more than two decades. Shaun is a gentle giant who has gotten things done, and is largely why so many residents are proud to call Sparks home.”
