RENO, Nev. ( & KRNV) -- Mayor Geno Martini focused squarely on the city's challenging economic times during Sparks 'State of the City' address on Monday. This theme has been the primary topic of conversation since 2008, when the city experienced the brunt of its economic downturn.

Mayor Martini said Sparks citizens consistently ask him if the recession is over; and his best response is, "We're continuing to weather the storm."

On a brighter note, the economic picture has, in fact, stabilized and some revenues are expected to uptick over the next couple of years. Although continued belt-tightening is in store -- Martini expects to make cuts upwards of $1.9 million -- he doesn't anticipate any layoffs.
