SPARKS, Nev. (KRNV & MyNews4.com) - Amaya Newton is an eighth grader at Sparks Middle School.    She says she knew the Sparks Middle School shooter very well.  She describes him as a sweet kid who was often mistreated by his classmates.

"Like tripping him in the hallways, bugging him for money so he would give it to him,"

Amaya says the boy never spoke up to anyone about the bullying.  He simply took it.

But she also says he might have gotten an idea about how to retaliate through an anti-bullying video shown in class on October 11th.   It was the last school day before the shootings occurred.   Students had a week off for fall break, then returned to school on Monday October 21st.  That's the day the shootings occurred.

"It was an anti-bullying movie but it could have gotten into his head about the girl scaring the bullies with the gun.  She brought a gun on the bus to scare them and threatened to kill them,"  Amaya told News 4.

We asked her what message she thinks the video sends to students.

"That maybe it's easier to scare your bullies than just to tell a teacher,"  she said.

We talked to another student who described the video just like Amaya described it. We wanted to see the video, but the Washoe County School District spokesperson told us they have never heard of this particular anti-bullying video.   They are checking into it to find if the content that's shown is appropriate for middle school children. We'll follow up when the school district has some answers.

oldguyincc: the other poster was talking about the killing in MA. The boy is 14; he is alive; he has been arraigned; he used a box cutter to kill the woman. http://www.usatoday.com/story/news/nation/2013/10/23/danvers-teacher-dead/3169235/ http://www.cnn.com/2013/10/24/justice/massachusetts-danvers-school-killing/

If this was simply a case of a child taking his own life, then yes sympathy is deserved, but the point that the child decided to murder random people, yes random, as in did nothing to him, he gets no sympathy in my book. And since everyone is now an expert as to what happened to this child, did he tell anyone, did he ask for help, probably not, he decided to kill, so no sympathy for him.

No retired you don't have a clue, blood is on the hands of the murderer. Their has never been a point in history that there has been more resources and avenues for children that are being bullied than there are now. In our days kids were much more cruel, and kids were bullied for their race, gender etc. and they did not go to school and kill anyone. I have zero sympathy for anyone that murders someone!!

@renojim, you don't have a clue! This was a 12 yr. old boy that did this not a grown man! In his mind he may have felt as though he was being terrorized every day he went to school and didn't know how to cope with it and this was his answer as tragic as it is!!The truly sad part is all the other kids that knew this was happening to him and did NOTHING to help him! The blood is on all their hands! If your not going to do anything to stop it then your as bad as the person perpetrating it!!!
