SPARKS, Nev. (KRNV & MyNews4.com) -- A citizen trying to be a good samaritan became a victim of an armed robbery Saturday night, in what Sparks Police said is an unusual crime.
Sparks Police said the man was out riding his motorcycle Saturday night and saw someone on the side of the road near Fisherman's Park 1 on Galletti Way at around 10:15, and he stopped to help.
Sparks Lieutenant Pete Krall said that is when the suspect pulled a gun on the man who was trying to help a stranger.
"When he stopped to render aid this person got up and robbed him," Krall said. "While that was going on a second person came from behind him."
Police are looking for two hispanic men in connection with this crime. One is in his early 30's, about 6 feet tall, weighing 170-180 pounds and is described as unshaven. He may have a beard. The other is in his late 30's, about 5 feet 7 inches tall, with a heavy-set build. He is described as having very bushy, messy hair.
Police said both men were wearing dark-colored, dirty clothing during the robbery.
Krall said this crime is very unusual.
"I can't think of a time when we've had something like this, in the last several years anyway," he said.
The case raises an alarm for people who might consider stopping to help in a similar situation.
"We don't want people to take unecessary risks," Krall said. "We don't want people to put themselves in harms way. That's what we're here for."
So Krall said if you see someone who appears to need help, the safest bet is to drive a short distance away and call 911.
"Let us come and do what we do," he said. "Be a good witness for us. That's really the best thing that the folks can do."
