SPARKS, Nev. (MyNews4.com & KRNV) -- A lightning strike caused a brushfire near Wedekind Road that left nearly 7,500 NV Energy customers without power.

According to Truckee Meadows Battalion Chief Tim Leighton, the fire burned less than a quarter of an acre, and did not damage any structures.

The fire has been extinguished, and NV Energy is working to restore power to every affected customer. According to NV Energy's Outage website, over 1,100 customers are still without power.

The outage was reported around 6:20 p.m. and of 11:30 p.m., all power has been restored to customers.

In the aftermath of this fire, it is important to remember when we have thunderstorms in the area and when you do see a lighting strike, be vigilant and call 911 to report it. With the Fourth of July around the corner, and extremely dry weather, do not use fireworks, as they are illegal and can cause fires.
