SPARKS, Nev. (KRNV & MyNews4.com) -- In the past his mother says 35-year-old Marcus Moreland struggled with drugs and alcohol, and she says he was turning his life around. but she hasn't heard from him in nearly a year, and after recovering his truck just yesterday, now she's fearing the worst.

"Your thoughts every day is where is he?" Bertha DeRoos said. "You hope he's fine. You pray to god he's fine."

DeRoos hasn't seen or heard from her son Marcus Moreland since June.

She said Moreland started drinking more and his girlfriend was a bad influence, and she told him she didn't approve.

"He didn't like what he had to say," DeRoos said.

So when she didn't hear from him, she thought he just needed some time.

"You have to give men their space, so I was trying to give him his space," DeRoos said.

Then months passed and she thought he'd cool off and come home for the holidays.

"I had all his gifts," she said. "But he didn't show up."

In March Storey County Sheriff's officials called and said someone wanted to claim Moreland's truck that was regsitered to DeRoos' husband.

It was found about five miles from the Virginia City highlands - a trip through rough terrain that takes about 45 minutes each way.

DeRoos said investigators searched the area near where the truck was found but didn't find any evidence of foul play.

"They think that he walked out, but if he walked out where is he?" she said.

The Storey County Sheriff's Office report shows multiple people who know Moreland said they had seen him since June - but they all later took back their statements saying they were wrong.

So DeRoos thinks someone has to know something.

"If he wants to be left alone, fine," she said. "He's an adult, but just let us know that he's okay.

She said the questions are haunting her.

"Every noise that you hear or every car that goes by, you wonder if that's him," DeRoos said.

So if Moreland is okay, she wants him to know he's loved and missed.

"Just let me know you're okay," she said.

If you've seen Marcus Moreland or have any information about where he might be, you can call the Storey County Sheriff's office at 775-847-0959 or Secret Witness at 775-322-4900.
