RENO, Nev. (KRNV & MyNews4.com) – Charlie Johnson, master brewer at Brewer’s Cabinet, has been busy in their on-site distillery, dreaming up wacky brews for Reno’s first Strangebrew festival this Saturday. It’s hosted by Brewer’s Cabinet and proceeds will go to the local non-profit, Reno Rebuild.
"We get to play Willy Wonka everyday kind of in our life. It’s like Willy Wonka for adults," he says.
Ten local breweries will be pouring a few dozen of their most off the wall beers. They’re the kind of beers you won't find on the standard menu; beers like, sushi porter, bubble gum, peanut butter chocolate, horchata, and sour patch kids, just to name a few.
Johnson says he's excited local breweries can showcase their talent with beer they normally don't get to make. "You're going back and really just thinking about something weird. With our beers we took some flavors that reminded us of stuff from being a kid, and added that into beer."
He says if you love beer, or even if you hate it, Strangebrew will be an adventure for your palate. "I'm really looking forward to some of the reactions of the people that are trying it. They might like it, they might hate it, but the idea is that you're changing people's perception of craft beer. "
The event takes place at Brewer’s Cabinet at 475 S Arlington Ave from 3-9pm and will feature local breweries including: The Brewer’s Cabinet, Great Basin, Silver Peak, Under the Rose, BJ’s, Brewing Lair, Brasserie, and more.
Pre-sale tickets can be purchased at The Brewer’s Cabinent for $30. Day-of-event tickets are $40.
