Sparks, NV-- A UC San Francisco police sergeant has arrested the man wanted in connection with a fatal shooting at the Sparks Nugget last weekend.
Ernesto Manuel Gonzalez, 53, was taken into custody Thursday night near the campus by Sgt. John Gutierrez, who was investigating a series of vehicle burglaries in the area. Gonzalez, a reputed member of the Vagos motorcycle gang, was reportedly cooperative.
Sparks Police have charged Gonzalez with one count of murder in connection with the shooting of Jeffrey "Jethro" Pettigrew, president of the San Jose chapter of the rival Hells Angels motorcycle gang last Friday night at the Sparks Nugget. Police say surveillance video cameras were rolling at the time of the shooting, but they are refusing to release the tape to the public. Pettigrew was reportedly shot four times in the back as casino patrons fled the scene.
Gonzalez will now have the choice of whether to waive extradition and willingly return to Nevada for trial on a single murder charge, or whether to fight extradition and force authorities to work through the courts to arrange for his return.
An extradition hearing date has not yet been set.
