RENO, NEV. (KRNV & MyNews4.com)--According to the Reno Police Department, the driver accused in the deadly hit and run of a pedestrian has turned herself into police.
According to Reno Police Sgt. Joe Robinson, 35-year-old Juliana Howell turned herself into police Tuesday night after seeing stories reported by local media.
Howell was arrested and booked into the Washoe County Jail on unrelated charges including outstanding warrants and probation violations.
Sgt. Robinson says Howell led police to her Honda Accord, believed to be used in the accident.
The victim has also been identified as Nevada resident 50-year-old Johnny Powell. Sgt. Robinson says Howell has not been formally charged with felony hit and run because the investigation is ongoing. Witnesses says Powell was laying in the middle of the road before he was hit. It's not clear exactly what Howell will be charged with.
Sgt. Robinson says its extremely important to stay at the scene of an accident, because the second you drive off and someone is hurt, you can be charged with felony hit and run. The injury can be as minor as a broken finger.
The accident happened on Kietzke and Peckham Lanes around 10pm Monday night.
