RENO, Nev. (MyNews4.com & KRNV) -- The Washoe County Sheriff's Office has released the identity of the suspect killed in an officer-involved shooting on Sunday.
The suspect, who was killed, is 42-year-old Royal Shawn Bingamen of Nampa, Idaho. Bingamen was wanted by the Lincoln County Sheriff's Office for narcotics offenses, and had been living in a motel in Reno.
In Washoe County, the protocol requires an uninvolved agency to investigate all officer-involved shootings. The Washoe County Sheriff's Office will continue to investigate the incident with assistance from the Sparks Police Department.
Meanwhile, the victim of the armed robbery said he is lucky to be alive, after he was allegedly shot by the suspect.
John Oliver said he tried to intervene when he saw the gunman at a CVS pharmacy at around 5 p.m. on Sunday. He said they were tugging back and forth on the gun when it went off, striking Oliver in the side. He has since been released from the hospital.
The two officers will remain on paid administrative leave pending initial criminal review and fitness for duty evaluation.
