RENO, Nev. (KRNV & MyNews4.com) -- The suspect in the deadly bank robbery from October 16 made a court appearance today and pled not guilty to murder, according to court officials.
Officials say 66-year-old Van McDuffie entered a Bank of America in Reno and handed the teller a note demanding money. Charles "Bob" Sperry was in the bank at the time and tried to stop McDuffie, but officials say McDuffie shot and killed Sperry.
McDuffie made a run for it which was when an off-duty police officer called 911 and chased after him. McDuffie was waiting at a bus stop when Reno Police caught him.
According to police, McDuffie did not admit to the crimes during questioning and if convicted, the charges do carry a maximum of the death penalty.
