RENO, Nev. (KRNV & MyNews4.com) -- Truckee Meadows Community College and the University of Nevada, Reno are warning students about an email scam concerning Honor Society acceptance.

The schools say the email has the subject of "(Your name) - Honor Society Acceptance Letter." They say this is a fraudulent email and to not give any personal information in reply. Do not click on any links or attempt to sign up. If you did click on the link, they say to scan your computer for viruses and spyware. TMCC, nor UNR endorsed or approve of any of their activities.

The following link gives important steps you can take to avoid getting hooked by a phishing scheme. Find out more about personal computer security at http://www.tmcc.edu/security/community/.
