RENO, Nev. (KRNV & MyNews4.com) -- The Truckee Meadows Fire Protection District (TMFPD) will temporarily lift the ban on open burning beginning Friday, March 8 through Sunday, March 17 at 2 p.m.

Residents who live within the boundaries of the TMFPD will be allowed to burn yard debris, but are required to obtain a new burn permit from their nearest TMFPD fire station and follow the instructions on the permit. Burning must conclude by 2 p.m. each day and must adhere to the safety protocols listed on the burn permit.

TMFPD cautions all residents to follow the guidelines on the burn permit and pay close attention to the winds and proximity to structures before burning. During fire season, open burning will be closed and residents will be informed if it will re-open for the fall season.

Residents are required to call the burn line at (775) 326-6000 ext. 3 to verify it is a permissible burn day prior to burning. Residents may call the main TMFPD office at (775) 326-6000 with further questions.
