According to the Nevada Highway Patrol, three loads of gravel fell off a vehicle onto I-80 at Orchard near Painted Rock around 9:30 a.m. The disbursed gravel is thought to be the cause of the 20-car pile-up.
NHP is investigating the subsequent crashes. Nine victims were transported by ground to a hospital in Reno with non-life threatening injuries. The exact hospital is unknown. One lane has been opened but traffic is still extremely backed up.
A woman waiting in traffic possibly went into labor and was transported by Care Flight into a Reno hospital.
