RENO, Nev. (MyNews4.com & KRNV) --Thousands lined up at the St. Vincent's Food Pantry to receive a free turkey and a bag full of food early Wednesday morning.
About a thousand people pre-registered for the turkeys the first two months of May, and today they were able to redeem their voucher for a 14lb turkey. The Department of Agriculture donated the turkeys that were distributed Wednesday morning.
The director of the St. Vincent's Food Pantry, Scott Cooksley, tells News 4 the first person came down to the 4th street location at 1:30am. The distribution wasn't supposed to happen until 8am, but volunteers started handing turkeys out early because of the rainy weather.
This is the second year the St. Vincent's Food Pantry has hosted "Thanksgiving in May."
"It's great, just from the fact that you're giving someone something that they can use and that they need, and in that aspect alone, it's just wonderful. It happens to be turkey and some extra food, and that's just a fabulous feeling," said Cooksley.
