RENO, Nev. (Mynews4.com & KRNV) - Megabus.com is a city-to-city bus service that is expanding in Nevada and California.  Beginning in December, passengers can travel from Sparks, Nevada to Sacramento, California or San Francisco, California.  The starting fare is just one dollar.

But fares can reach $25 per way says Mike Alvich, Vice President of Marketing and Public Relations for Coach USA and Megabus.com.  "We have a system, we allocate a certain number of one dollar seats and once dollar seats are sold out it goes up from there," he said.  "The secret to getting the lowest fare, book 30 to 45 days in advance," said Alvich.

But how does a company profit on just a dollar per ticket? According to Alvich they bank on filling up the seats and making sure the buses are running at full capacity every day.  "That allows you to cover the cost and make a profit," said Alvich.

The 81-passenger 13.1 feet high, double-decker buses offer free Wi-Fi, power outlets and seat belts.

Megabus starts rolling through northern Nevada December 12th.  It is considered a "curbside motor coach" and will pick up and drop off passengers at the RTC Centennial Plaza in Sparks twice a day seven days a week.

Visit www.megabus.com for additional information about the service, schedules, arrival and departure times and fares.

Wonder if it beats an airfare out of RNO to elsewhere from San Fran when taking a $1 bus connector first-anyone know?
