SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. (KRNV & -- A trial date of Oct. 1, 2013 has been set for Andrew Sanford, the man accused of killing a 16-year-old in 1980 in South Lake Tahoe.

Sanford's attorney, Erik Schlueter, says Sanford has been denied bail and has been held since March of 2012.

The death penalty is no longer being considered for Sanford, but Schlueter said he could still be sentenced to life without parole.

The key piece of evidence in the case was that some duct tape found around the victim’s body has Schluter’s DNA on it. It also has multiple other DNA samples from people who have not been identified.
