Come on people........quit talking about firearms laws you have absolutely no idea about. Nevada has an instant check system that will allow an individual to walk out with a pistol, rifle, or shotgun within minutes if they have a clean criminal/mental history. If there is something that needs to be checked, as happened in this specific case, the buyer can be put on a 72 hour hold while the state checks out whatever may have come up on the initial background check. He may then either be denied, approved, or have the situation come up unresolved and have the option of going through with the purchase with the possibility it will be denied once further information is discovered. He would then get a visit from law enforcement to confiscate the firearm. Since Brooks has had numerous negative contacts with Nevada law enforcement lately, as well as having protective orders out against him, he popped on the background check. I'm sure the officers that were "shadowing" him also put a call in to the Nevada instant check office as well. No county in Nevada has a 72 hour waiting period. Clark county does require registration of handguns within 72 hours for residents of Clark county. Brooks is spiraling out of control right now and hopefully he will be committed before he hurts himself or someone else............

72 hr waiting period ONLY applys to HAND GUNS rifles are allowed to walk out with purchaser AFTER BACK GROUND CHECK which consists of a call to the FBI and ALL the info on your drivers licence with the questionnaire you filled out is submitted if there NOT TO busy this could take about 15 min other times it could take a FEW HRS!

The 72 hour waiting period is only done down Clark County, and even then only if the purchaser has never possessed a blue registration card for other handguns. The AP writer of this story, like most clueless journalists, probably assumes that the stupidity which infects Vegas applies to the entire free state of Nevada.

72 hour waiting period(3 days)???. If you are going to report the news please try to know the laws. Should this man be able to buy a gun at this time, probably not. Scheels had the right to refuse service for him to purchase a firearm.

If I owned a gun shop, and knew who this guy was I would escort him out the front door. If they allow this guy to purchase a gun with his record of questionable actions there is truly something wrong with the system. Of course allowing this guy to buy a gun could result in another shooting incident that would add fuel to the fire of gun control. Idiot control and not gun control!

Deadmeat99 - just curious - my husband has always had to do a 72 hour waiting period - just bought a gun a couple of months ago and had to wait 72 hours before picking it up - is this not your experience in NV as well?

72 hour waiting period? Not in Nevada there isn't, unless the NIC system is just that backed up.
