TRUCKEE, Calif. (KRNV & MyNews4.com) -- A Truckee Police sergeant and community service officer assisted Dave Baker of the Truckee Bear League with rescuing an injured six-month-old bear cub.

The cub had been hit by a car a week and a half ago, and suffered a broken leg. Several Truckee residents had reported the cub in their neighborhood and yesterday the cub was found up in a tree. Baker climbed the tree and was able to rescue the cub and lower it to the ground where it was placed in a crate.

The little critter was taken to Lake Tahoe Wildlife Care, where it underwent surgery this morning for two broken bones.

For more information you can follow the cub's recovery here.

Please help keep wildlife safe and wild. The Truckee Bear League can be contacted at (530) 587-1374.

Truckee Police say this rescue was a success thanks to the great cooperation between the Truckee Bear League, the Truckee Police Department and several concerned Truckee citizens.
