TRUCKEE, Calif. ( & KRNV) -- A routine jog for a 27-year-old woman turned deadly on Wednesday when she was struck by a train in Truckee.

Truckee police have identified Janaki Rose Hayes as the woman hit by the train. Investigators believe she was on the track to access a nearby trail for a run.

The incident happened around 1:40 p.m. east of the Highway 267 overpass. Police are calling this a tragic accident, noting that she was listening to music through large headphones when she was killed.

The Union Pacific train was traveling from Sparks to Roseville carrying cargo.
