RENO, Nev. (MyNews4.com & KRNV) -- Tesla drivers are one step closer to Reno as a new Truckee charging station is under construction.
Nevada Electric Vehicle Accelerator Outreach Coordinator Stan Hanel said it is all part of Tesla's electric transportation effort across the nation.
"If Tesla owners want to drive cross-country, Tesla has basically established their own supercharger network from the west coast to the east coast," said Hanel.
You can drive from Los Angeles to Sacramento now, as charging stations are within 200 miles of each other along the route. Once the Truckee station in complete, you can go east from there.
Hanel said linking Nevada's major cities could happen, too. "I talked with Tesla. Because they are trying to connect the higher population centers, it could be a year or two out."
In the past three years, over 100 electric vehicle charging stations have popped up across the Silver State, and Nevada Electric Vehicle Accelerator is helping make this happen.
Board member Susan Clark said the company has focused on the stations throughout Reno and Las Vegas. "Now we are expanding out to more of our rural communities to look at how we can connect the whole state. Nevada is really unique in that our electric grid is quite clean between geothermal, the solar and some on the wind."
Las Vegas is home to the only Tesla supercharging station in Nevada.
