TRUCKEE, Calif. ( & KRNV) -- The Truckee Police Department has seized approximately 38 pounds of processed marijuana from a traffic stop on Interstate 80.

According to a press release, the California Highway Patrol conducted a traffic stop on Thursday at around 8:15 p.m. on eastbound Interstate 80 near the Central Truckee off-ramp. While speaking to the driver, an alert officer observed several indicators of possible narcotics trafficking.

Truckee Police Canine Trax and his handler responded to the location and began an investigation. Trax ultimately alerted on the vehicle, and the ensuing search resulted in locating several cardboard boxes and two large plastic storage containers. Inside the containers were 31 heat-sealed plastic packages of processed marijuana. The estimated total weight was approximately 38 pounds of marijuana with an estimated street value of over $100,000.

The driver, identified as 52-year-old Eric Draffen of New York, was ultimately arrested on three felony counts of narcotics trafficking, possession, and possession for sales. Draffen was booked into the Nevada County Truckee Jail.
