TRUCKEE, Calif. (MyNews4.com & KRNV) -- The town of Truckee is banding together in a war on drugs, and a two-year-old lab named Trax is part of the effort.

Trax is a drug-sniffing dog and for the first time he will be used at high schools in the Tahoe-Truckee unified school district. His presence is all part of an on-going community-wide effort that gained momentum after the most recent "healthy kids survey" shows some alarming statistics.

Research showed Truckee students exceed the state averages relating to drug and alcohol abuse. This community-wide effort seeks to engage Truckee businesses, hospitals, teachers, parents, students and law enforcement.
