ELKO, Nev. (KRNV, MyNews4.com & AP) — Subzero temperatures are being blamed for the deaths of two people in Elko County as an arctic air mass keeps much of northern Nevada in a deep freeze.
The National Weather Service says temperatures in Elko have fallen to 15 below zero in recent days and have not been above freezing since Christmas Eve.
A 62-year-old homeless woman camping along the Humboldt River was found dead on Monday. She was identified as Pamela Wallace of Elko, she had fallen under hard times after the recent passing of her husband.
A man slipped and fell down a steep embankment along a rock wall on Court Street in Elko. The man, Kerk Castillo, and was in his 30’s. Kerk suffered a disability and was walking down Court Street alone after an argument with family. He was found on Tuesday against the wall of a hotel on Idaho St.
