Sparks, NV. (KRNV & MyNews4.com) - In less than a week, two over-night fires damaged two different business buildings within a half-mile of each other. On Tuesday night, a fire broke out at 2281 Pyramid Highway. On early Saturday morning, another fire broke out at 337 Pyramid Highway.
"It's an oddity for us,” says Sparks Fire Marshal, Bob King, “We had two fires within one week, both business-type of fires. So it's been a little different for us. We've been pretty busy with that. It's taken a lot of our resources."
Both fires have other similarities: each building complex housed several dental offices and other small businesses, and there were no injuries. King says both were devastating. At least one suite in the first fire was completely destroyed after the roof caved in.
Though an exact cause has yet to be determined, investigators have a good idea. King says, "We definitely feel that the origin of the fire was in the attic area, or just below the attic area, in an 18-inch-chaise, in between the drop ceiling and attic."
The attic was also damaged in the second fire, but investigators are still sifting through evidence. The big difference, according to King, is that the second fire appears to have started outside.
This leads investigators to believe the two fires are unrelated despite the close proximity in time and location.
"I feel like it really is just a coincidence,” says King. “They definitely were two completely different fires and totally different causes too. So it's really strange that it happened, but that it did.”
