MONO COUNTY, Nev. (MyNews4.com & KRNV) -- Two hikers who went missing out of Red's Meadow have been rescued and are now safe.
On the return trip home from their day trek August 12, the two hikers took the wrong trail and became lost. One of the hikers was diabetic and did not bring any medication on the day hike. The hiker started to feel chilled -- one of the negative effects of diabetes -- and wasn’t sure how far they could continue hiking. One of the hikers did have cell phone service and was able to contact 911.
The Mono County Sheriff's Search and Rescue Team (SAR) was called to aid the lost hikers, and were able to get the pair to safety with the help of a helicopter. The diabetic hiker was assessed by Mono County Paramedics and required no further medical treatment. The hikers were taken to their vehicle parked near Mammoth Mountain.
Officials are reminding anyone traveling in back-country to always carry adequate supplies, including any medication.
