YOSEMITE, Calif. (MyNews4.com & KRNV) -- The U.S. Forest Service will allow logging on part of the Sierra Nevada that was burned in last year's rim fire.

According to a press release, logging will be allowed on a little more than 50 square miles of land. Officials released the decision on Wednesday and are already hearing from environmentalists who say the burned trees and new growth under them create habitats for certain birds.

Timber industry supporters say logging would pay for replanting and restoring the forest, and allow people to use the land.
