RENO, Nev. (AP) — The U.S. Forest Service plans to begin a pair of prescribed fire operations this week on the south shore of Lake Tahoe, weather permitting.
Fuels management crews working to thin the forest and reduce the fuel loads that raise the risk of big wildfires plan to burn about nine acres beginning Wednesday on the edge of South Lake Tahoe, Calif., near the intersection of Pioneer Trail and Tahoe Boulevard.
Crews also plan to burn 10 to 15 acres at the site where the Angora fire destroyed 250 homes in 2007.
The operations are scheduled to continue through the week, although that could change depending on the winter storm.
