RENO, Nev. (MyNews4.com & KRNV) -- After a sluggish start to the year, current unemployment numbers are some of the best the area has seen in years, according to a report by the Labor Department.

Weekly applications for unemployment dropped to a seasonally adjusted 284,000 -- which is the lowest it has been in eight years. The unemployment rate has fallen to 6.1 percent, the lowest since September of 2008.

But the job growth hasn't impacted wage growth, wage levels have barely kept up with inflation during the economic recovery.
