SPARKS, Nev. (KRNV & MyNews4.com) -- -Emily Meany, a Senior and JROTC Commander at Reno High School in Reno, NV., was named the VFW Department of Nevada’s first-place winner and recipient of the $1,500.00 Award in the 2012-2013 Voice of Democracy Scholarship Program.
She now goes on to the National Competition were she could win $30,000.00 at the Veterans of Foreign Wars Legislative Conference in Washington DC March 2-6, 2013.
VFW Post 3396 and Ladies Auxiliary in Sparks, NV., sponsored Emily.
The Voice of Democracy program requires entrants to write and record a three-to five-minute script on a patriotic theme. “Is Our Constitution Still Relevant?” was this year’s theme. Nearly 450 Nevada students participated in the program this year.
