RENO, Nev. -- The Donald W. Reynolds School of Journalism and Center for Advanced Media Studies at UNR has hired Vanessa Vancour as the first coordinator of its Nevada Media Alliance.
In her role as coordinator, Vancour is responsible for overseeing student-produced journalistic content on subjects such as northern Nevada business and economics, environment and culture. She will work to identify new ways to help grow the Alliance either regionally or through strategic partnerships. Additionally, she is responsible for teaching the Reynolds School’s news studio course each semester.
"Vanessa brings a strong mix of broadcast journalism, digital technology and strategic communication skills to the Reynolds School," said Dean Al Stavitsky. "Her understanding of entrepreneurship and her ability to guide students in developing innovative methods of multi-media storytelling will advance the Nevada Media Alliance."
Vancour will also teach an advanced social media course through the University’s Extended Studies program where students will learn how to develop social media strategies, leverage web analytics to effectively engage target audiences, and how to optimize social sites for search. The program will begin in May of 2014.
The Nevada Media Alliance is supported by grants from The Hearst Foundations, the Charles H. Stout Foundation and the E.L. Cord Foundation.
